How to Make Your Own Homemade Disinfectant

We are living through unprecedented times. With COVID-19 being increasingly present in our lives, and just recently rates spiking up all over the United States, it goes without saying that we should be investing more time in our home cleaning than we were before. Of course, cleaning our houses and doing regular house cleanings has always been important, but making sure to regularly disinfect and sanitize surfaces and products we bring inside our homes is now even more crucial to remain healthy. If you are looking for ways to be more green in the way you clean, you can choose to make your homemade disinfectant that is free of toxic chemicals. This article will show you how to make a homemade disinfectant that you can use on nearly all surfaces.

At Maid Solution, we care about the environment. That is why we offer a green maid service that only uses eco-friendly detergents and EPA approved cleaning supplies for those who prefer having a home that is cleaned in this way. Being green does not have to mean that your home is less sanitary; there are ways to make your own detergent without hurting the Earth or your health.

For this detergent, you will need the following:

  • 1 and ¼ cups of water
  • ¼ cup of white vinegar
  • ¼ cup of any alcohol that has over 60% of alcohol content. If you choose to use rubbing alcohol, be ready to have a medicinal scent after using it.
  • Approximately 15 drops of essential oils. Our favorite combination to use is either peppermint with lemon or lavender with lemon; they leave a fresh smell in your house.

Once you have the various items ready, you simply have to add it to a bottle; a spray bottle is best in this case as you can evenly spread the detergent once you start cleaning. Shake it thoroughly and you are good to go. This detergent smell amazing and is a cheap and easy way to get your house to smell great while being sparkling clean. This can be used on nearly all surfaces except for granite or marble as this may erode the surface slightly; this is due to the vinegar content. For such surfaces, we recommend using cleaning materials created specifically for that purpose, as all our lovely employees do at Maid Solution.

In fact, we take special measures while undertaking our house cleanings to ensure that there is no cross-contamination; for example, we never use the same washing clothes in two different areas of the house. We encourage you to do the same if you choose not to utilize a professional maid service, or if you are doing any kind of home cleaning. This can significantly lower the chances of spreading the coronavirus from one room to the next if, for example, someone in your family has COVID-19 and is asymptomatic. If you prefer to leave this task up to professionals, don’t hesitate to reach out to us. We have over 26 years of cleaning experience and hundreds of happy customers. Your satisfaction and health are our priority!
